HOW TO POST PICTURES WITHIN YOUR JSSKA MESSAGE BOARD POST
1. First, transfer your pictures from your digital camera to your computer (your hard drive). If you are unsure how to do this, check the instructions that come with your camera.
2. Save the pictures in a web format such as JPG, TIF, GIF, or PDF. Your photo-editing software will have a 'save-as' option that will let you choose one of these formats. TIP: Make sure your photos are in RGB color mode and are sized for web-viewing - full size photos at 72 DPI resolution are appropriate for the web, anything larger will be slow to upload and view.
3. Next you must upload your pictures to the web. You can upload and store your photos on an FTP site which many Internet Service Providers give their customers for free storage for personal websites. Contact your ISP to find out what you need to do to access the FTP site where your content can be stored. OR you can store your photos on a photo website such as Photobucket, or Grovestreet, Snapfish, etc. (Note: The Kodak wesite allows you to create a link to a slideshow but does not allow for easy posting of single photos to our message board).

The easiest site for message board posting is http://photobucket.com/. Here are steps specific to the photobucket website:

A.Upload your digital picture to the photobucket website.

B. "Select" the picture you want in your message ("select" means to click on the small square under the picture so that a check mark apears in the square).  Then at the bottom of the same screen click on: "Generate HTML and IMG code". A new screen will appear.

C. Scroll down to the 2nd to the last option that says: "IMG images for message boards". Click the long link in the box under that & the code is automatically copied.

D. Go to the JSSKA message board, open a new message, click on the message field (the box where you write your post) and hit Ctrl and V simultaneously-- and the image code is copied to the message board. The code will look something like:

[img]http://i457.photobucket.com/albums/qq297//kayak.jpg[/IMG]

When you click on the message board's "preview" button, the code will be replaced by your photograph.

4. For other photostorage websites, use the instructions specific to that site.
5.Once you upload your pictures to a website, in order to post them to the message board you will need the web address of your images - this is called a URL. Every webpage on the Internet has a URL, and it is listed in the address window at the top of your screen. A URL begins with http:  For example, http://www.jsska.org is the URL address for the JSSKA home page.
6.Once uploaded to the web, each of your pictures will have its own unique URL. This will include the website address, your file name, and file extension. For example, a picture with a file name of mykayak.jpg on the JSSKA homepage would have a URL of: http://www.jsska.org/mykayak.jpg.

7. To display your picture in the message board post your are typing, click the insert image icon which appears in the options above the box where you are typing your message.

10. When you click this icon, two image tags [img][/img] will appear in your message.
11. Place your cursor between the two sets of parentheses. Cut & Paste (or type) the URL address of your picture between the 2 sets of parentheses. Example:  [img]http://www.comcast.net/mykayak.jpg[/img] In this example, The URL address is shown in red and the the picture name is shown in blue.
12. The URL address and file names are CASE SENSITIVE, so be sure to type it exactly with respect to upper and lower case letters.
13. When your post is done, click on "Preview" and your photo should appear -- if you typed everything correctly. If you didn't, a white square with a red X will appear. Go back and check to make sure your URL is correct. An easy way to check the URL is to try inserting the URL in your address bar and click enter-- a new window should open with your photo. If it does not, you must correct the address prior to posting it on the web. Note: use the URL only, without the [img] codes for this test. If your URL works, then make sure the [img] codes are correct i.e. [img]before the URL and [/img]after the URL.
