Launching considerations / restrictions:

Shallow beach with dune to cross between parking and water. Easy entry at high tide, walk out thru water to deeper area at low tide. You may encounter a large amount of floating sea weed and other debris at this Beach.

Parking situation:

Free parking area, graded, but unpaved, hardpack surface. Patrolled by county rangers. Bathrooms located at 'spye house' and fishing pier three hundred yards down road.

Comments:

Good alternate to Sandy Hook when the Hook is closed. The waters are usually calm, sheltered by land and surrounding hills. Naval Weapons Station Earle limits access to the east (Sandy Hook). The Navy pier is 2.4 miles long! If considering trip to Sandy Hook from here it is 4.5 miles to nearest bay beach. Navy prohibits entry into resticted water around pier so don't even think about cutting through.

Shallow waters with light boat traffic for miles west and out into bay. MHW depth is 6' for most of bay area limiting large boats, Popular jet ski launch at Leonardo is on other side of navy pier, thereby restricted. Local stores located on Highway 36.

There may be a significant number of flies.
