Delaware Bay
(at Gandy's Beach - Downe Township)

Driving Directions:
- From Millville, NJ
- Route 555 south approx. 8.5 miles to Route 553.
- 4 miles west on Route 553 to sign for Fortescue.
- Left onto Fortescue Road, look for turnoff for Gandy's Beach (bear right), then at fork bear left for Gandy Ave.
- Right fork leads to Money Island.
- Route 553 runs from Port Norris on the Maurice River west to Bridgeton on Route 49.
- ** NOTE As with all Cumberland County launch sites, Gandy's Beach is best located with
a good Cumberland County map in hand, or a really good NJ state map (American Map
Company). Without such maps, the traveler will quickly become lost in a maze of rural roads.

Launching considerations / restrictions:
Tidal currents can affect travel on Delaware Bay; be conscious of the tidal cycle.
Parking situation:
Gandy Avenue dead ends at Delaware Bay. There is not a lot of parking available
right at the launch site, but boats can be unloaded and brought to the water,
then cars parked on adjacent streets.
Comments:
Direct launch onto Delaware Bay. Miles of mostly uninhabited shoreline accessible,
from Egg Island Point to the southeast, to the mouth of the Cohansey River to the
northwest. Paddlers should be self-sufficient.
