Driving Directions:

• From North
• Garden State Parkway South to exit 30.
• Follow West Laurel Drive east to Route 9 South.
• Follow Route 9 South toward Great Egg Harbor Bay.
• You will be on bridge for about 50 yards and make an immediate left on small dirt road onto the island (situated between Parkway and Route 9). If you pass the toll booth, you have gone too far.

• From South
• Garden State Parkway North to exit 25.
• Take CR 623 West to Route 9 North.
• Follow Route 9 North over Great Egg Harbor Bay. Drag Island is two thirds of the way over the bridge. (Situated between Parkway and Route 9).
• Make right on small dirt road onto the island.

Launching considerations / restrictions:

Water can be rough if windy and the wind direction is in opposition with the current. This is tidal water, so plan your trip accordingly. Beasley's Point (where the power plant sits) is the tidal reference station.

Parking situation:

Be aware of the deep sand along the north side of the island. It is best to park between the phragmites and the dirt road. Watch for the poison ivy, as well.

Comments:

This is a great launch for access to the ocean, via Longport/Ocean City Inlet, the back bays and rivers, such as Egg Harbor and Patcong Creek. This site can get crowded with fishermen during the summer months.
