Comments:
There are some tranquil wildlife areas amidst some residential homes on both necks of the Beaver Dam Creek. Some areas are a bit shallow and muddy at low tide.
You can access the Slade Dale Nature Sanctuary in just a few minutes by kayaking to the sandy shore (less than one quarter mile from launch site). Once you land, look for foot trails which traverse the wooded 13 acre preservation area.
This site also provides good access into the Northern portion of the Barnegat Bay. Herring Island and the Wildlife Refuge are good places to take a break or have lunch.
! Heavy powerboat traffic in the Barnegat Bay during prime season can make getting to these destinations rather treacherous. Be VERY vigiliant.
- Less than 1.5 miles to Bay Head Harbor in Barnegat Bay
- Approximately 2 miles to Herring Island or the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge.
- Approximately 4.5 miles to the Reedy Creek portion of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge
