Launching considerations / restrictions:
!Caution - There is only a VERY small pull off for one and ONLY one vehicle.
You will need to unload your boat and all items here, before proceeding to parking area.
Be sure of water level and flood
stage. There is a water line mark at the bridge on CR565 (Glenwood Rd)
that you can check to see how many inches below max. level. At lower water levels however
there may be some shallow spots.
Parking situation:
No parking at all at the launch site, you can drop the
boat off at the shoulder right near the putin. Parking is
available, but unsigned, at the next intersection (Scenic Lakes road and CR 565). Small
dirt parking area on the corner. Distance back to launch site is about 2/10 mile on busy
road.
Comments:
Although there are no facilities, the refuge headquarters is another
8/10 mile north on CR 565 on the left, where restrooms are available.
This is a nice quiet stream, current is mild and there
are a bunch of strainers in the beginning but still navigatable for the
7 miles to Bassett Bridge putout. Launch is a basically a riverside
launch with a grass lip and very clay like bottom. Be careful of small
wheeled kayak carts if you choose to use them if field is wet.
