Passaic River
(at Bloomfield Avenue)

Driving Directions:
- From GSP
- Take Garden State Parkway to exit 145 (I-280 West).
- Take I280 West to exit 1(New Road).
- Make right on New Road.
- Make a right at the first stop light which is Route 46 East.
- Go through next light, then bear to the right towards “The Caldwells”.
- This is Bloomfield Avenue. Make a left at the first left turn lane into Pio Costa Complex.
- Proceed northwest 200 yards (past diner, towards the river) and look for a small paved section on river bank.
- From I287 and points West
- Take I-287 North to I-80 East to exit 47B.
- This is Route 46 East. Go through 2 lights, then bear to the right towards “The Caldwells”.
- This is Bloomfield Ave. Make a left at the first left turn lane into Pio Costa Complex.
- Proceed northwest 200 yards (past diner, towards the river) and look for a small paved section on river bank.
- From East
- Take I80 West to exit 52 (Fairfield/Lincoln Pk. Exit.)
- Make a right at the end of the exit ramp on to Passaic Avenue.
- Make another right onto Route 46 West.
- Take Route 46 West three miles to the light at Clinton Rd.
- This is the first stop light.
- Follow the “jug handle” so that you cross Route 46 at that light. This will put you on Clinton Road.
- After a mile bear right at the fork onto Oak Street.
- Pass tennis courts on right, then merge with Bloomfield Avenue.
- Immediately thereafter, turn right into Pio Costa complex.
- Proceed northwest 200 yards (past diner, towards the river) and look for a small paved section on river bank.

None reported.
Parking situation:
Plenty of free/legal parking open to the public as this
is an industrial village and is semi-privately owned. The people of
the businesses near the launch site are friendly, welcoming and always
willing to share the plentiful paved parking areas. Most are very
interested and are eager to learn more about your adventures on the river.
Comments:
Put-in here to paddle the huge loop through a scenic
area called Great Piece Meadows of Fairfield and beyond. Approximately
12 miles/3 to 4 hours to Two Bridges area. This area is very remote and
you may encounter more than one fallen tree hazards. Of the 3 or 4 we
came upon, all were passable on 9-22-04.
