Chatsworth Road at Harrisville Lake
Chatsworth, NJ 08019, Burlington County
Land owner: State
GPS Coordinates: L 39o 39.936' N Lo 74o 31.453' W
Water: Fresh
Water type: Lake
Launch area is: Beach, Ramp
Launch area surface is: Sand
Facilities: Outhouse (Across street from parking area)
Launching considerations / restrictions:
No fees, no tides, Carry in-Carry Out. Launch and lake is part of Wharton State Forest. Not sure about the Oswego river. Current is from Oswego Lake down to Harrisville so if you want a lazy paddle, start in Oswego and go south.
Parking situation:
Free parking, enough space for about a dozen haphazard parking, plus more on shoulder. You can see the lake and a trail sign from the road. The putin is not marked but it's an obvious place for them.
Comments:
This is a very shallow lake, lots of reeds, one can paddle up the Oswego river to Oswego Lake too with nice swimming holes and fairly private. Obvious road access allows for some partiers at spots and you go under the batona trail at some point. Very very shallow in spots, but at least the subsurface is mostly sandy with submerged pine roots/stumps, not rocks. The river has some minor obstacles but it mostly clear. I cleared them all easily with a 14' Impex Mystic. My friend with a 17' Force 3 had to walk through one tight corner.
