Driving Directions:

• From the traffic circle on the west end of the Bear Mt. Bridge (reached via the Bridge or via the Palisades Parkway if coming from New Jersey), take Route 9W North.
• Go about 13 miles on 9W, past West Point, past the town of Cornwall-on-Hudson, and then across Moodna Creek, which is pretty well marked with a sign on your right as you cross the bridge.
• Plum Point Lane is the first right after the creek, around 0.3 miles, between a bowling alley and a Toyota dealer.
• The sign, which is a bit hidden by the bowling alley sign, says "Kowawese Unique Area," not Plum Point Lane. (The Hagstrom map calls it Plum Point Lane)
• Turn right and into the unique area, which is actually a state park.
• The put-in is at a beach just past the parking lot.

Launching considerations / restrictions:

No fees or restrictions. Tidal currents can be fairly strong in that area, so it's worth checking them (though wind can outweigh them, in terms of the direction of the current).

Parking situation:

Free parking. Lot is about 40 feet from the beach, down a little hill.

Comments:

Excellent launch site for the Hudson Highlands if you want to start by heading downstream. Just opposite Bannermans. There are several nice small beaches around 3-5 miles downstream from there on the east side of the river in the Cold Point that make good break stops. West Point is around 6-7 miles downstream; however it is officially off-limits now, so don't plan to stop there.
