Launching considerations / restrictions:
Launch is a Hand Carry, about 800ft from parking. Garbage cans and picnic table and bench at the launch site. Basically hike in about 600ft and then make a right at the bike lock and go another 200ft to the launch.
Parking situation:
Free parking, limited to approx 6-8 cars unless packed well. Park sign says "park open from dawn to dusk" but probably not a problem.
Comments:
Launch site opened in 2003. TAKE HEED OF THE TIDES!!! As this site is only accessible when the tide under the Metro North/Amtrack line is moderately above low tide, you have to launch/land based on the tide charts. Otherwise, you'll have to portage under the MTA tressle and then the marsh becomes a huge mud flat! I don't believe high tide is an issue, you should be able to clear the tressle based on what I saw of the high water mark. But low tide is certainly an issue as well with all marshes on the Hudson.
