BE FAMILIAR with US Coast Guard Regulations, and ALWAYS BE AWARE of current and future weather predictions, the level of tidal influence and the strength of currents in the area you intend to paddle. ALWAYS use navigational aids (e.g. nautical or topographical maps, tide charts, compass, GPS) when paddling areas you are unfamiliar with.**
